General – FAQs

What kind of graphic design services do you provide?

Our graphic design services are varied and comprehensive. We provide logo design, brochure design, illustrations, graphics for web sites, direct mail design, marketing, stationery – including business card, letterhead, envelope, mailing label, and presentation folder design, and any other designs your business may require. I don’t know where to start. Can you help me?

Call us. We’ll listen to your needs and tell you what your options are. A job may seem overwhelming until you have the right experts helping you out. We can put things in perspective and offer solutions that you may not have even considered.

I’m on a very tight deadline. Can you help me?

We can usually accommodate your rush job depending on how full our production schedule is.

Does it matter whether my designer is in the same city?

Not at all. A large majority of our clients are located in a different city and state. We have an array of tools at our disposal to meet the needs of clients from all corners of the world.

Web Design – FAQs

How long will it take for my web site to be designed?

The time it takes to design a website is dictated by several different variables… Is this a redesign of a current site? Is this a completely new site? Will the site be big or small? Will the site have an eCommerce or store section? Has all the content been provided by the client? How much structuring needs to be done?

At Digital Canvas aren’t afraid deadlines and will strive to meet yours! The most common delay in completion of a new website is obtaining and structuring the content (text/images) that is to be provided to us by the client.

Will we need to have a meeting before we start the website design?

That depends on the client, generally contact via email and telephone is enough to get the information needed to design a new web site. We are always willing to have an in-person meeting if that is what works best for you. You will have the ability to view your site online as the design progresses. To ensure the site fits your needs of your business, we will stay in contact with you to discuss functionality and make edits as the site is being designed.

Can I have a website designed that I can easily maintain on my own?

Of course. We specialize in creating WordPress websites that are very easy to maintain. We often recommend this type of site to our clients because it is an affordable way to have a great looking, professional site with up-to-date content.

Once my website design is completed, do you offer web support?

We fully support any website that we designWe fully support any website that we design and can offer support or maintenance for existing sites. We are always available should you encounter any problems or require any changes.

Is my website hosted on your server?

We generally recommend a using a web hosting company to host your site. This is good because you have access to your website and all of its contents at all times. We can easily work on the back end of your site using the server information you receive when you set up your hosting. We will be more than happy to help you set up hosting and find what is right for the size and needs of your site.

In what format should I supply the information about my business for my new website?

It is helpful to us if you are able to provide text to be used on your new site in an email or a word doc. For photographs, we can accept almost any format, but generally JPGs are standard. We will help get your images ready for use on the website by adjusting file types and sizes.

What CMS (Content Management System) do you generally recommend?

This depends on the nature of your site and how “hands-on” you want it to be for you and your employees. We will look at the content you want to provide through your site along with other variables and help you decide which CMS makes the most sense for your business’s website.

Will my website be “Search Engine” friendly?

We design websites with search engines in mind and all of our sites are compliant with search engine guidelines. As time goes on, we recommend a re-evaluation of website, as search engines do alter their rules and algorithms. You will want to be certain that your website is kept up to date and complies with new rules and runs on the most updated version of the CMS.

I am a small business owner and want an online presence to promote my business to new customers and to provide a professional image to existing customers. Where do I start?

You need a professionally developed website, a domain name, and hosting facilities for your website. You also need the website to be uploaded onto your hosting facilities and promoted to the search engines. These are all services that we either offer or can facilitate. While the process of creating a new website can be daunting, we are here to help and make things as easy as possible on you.

Are there hidden costs associated with web design services?

No, we discuss your website requirements with you and then price accordingly. If your needs change during the design process we will discuss how that will effect the cost of the website. We will go over all the associated costs (such as hosting, domain name purchasing, etc.) at the beginning so you are aware of what is all involved.

How do I update my website?

This is also something that will be determined by the CMS used and the way we have designed your website. We will advise you as to what will work best for the type of company you have and the skill level of those who will be updating the site. We design sites that are easily changed and others that are more complex and require some back-end experience to update. It’s all about finding what fits your needs.

Will my site look the same on all devices and browsers?

Sometimes things appear differently depending on a specific browser, screen resolution settings and individual computer settings, however we check our work in multiple browsers and on both Mac and PC platforms to ensure your website is cross-compatible. If it is important for your site to be responsive, and work on smart phones and tablets, we can take the necessary steps to provide the type of site to fit your needs.

Can I get e-mail with my website?

Yes you can have email and you will probably want to set-up several email accounts at your domain. We will assist you in that process and help you to forward your email from existing email accounts.

Can I have an eCommerce system for my website?

Yes you can. We will be sure to set up your site in a secure way, using Secure Servers (SSL) with the latest encryption methods to ensure that your customers can buy from you website knowing that the information they enter is secure and safe. We will provide you with the information needed to develop the best eCommerce system for your business.

Is there any training provided on the Content Management System (CMS)?

We are more than happy to go over how to work in the back-end of your site once it is completed. If at any time you need help, we are available run through the procedures or answer any of your questions.

How many pages can I have on my web site?

As many as you want and from a search engine’s point a view, the more the better! The more content that is housed on your website, the better it will do in search results.

I already have a website and I need it updated, can you help me?

Yes, we would be happy to look at you existing website and give you an estimate for updating it. We can also do a re-design of your current site and provide guidance on how to further your business with a strong online presence.

How much will a website cost me?

The cost of a web site varies depending on the site and complexity. A small web site with just a few static pages could cost around $300 where as a full eCommerce website with a large number of pages and a CMS system could cost any where between $1,000 – $5,000+. Once we have discussed your needs we can give you an estimate on the cost of your new website design.

What are the various graphic design services that you provide?

How does the whole design process work?

We work with many clients via email, on the phone, or in a face-to-face meeting. We will set up a time to discuss what you will be using the design for, your budget, and most importantly, your expectations. Once we understand the scope of your project, we start working on the design. Proofs are sent via email. When the design is completed, we will supply you with the design files or arrange to have them printed for you.

What do you charge for your graphic design services?

Prices depend on many variants but you can be sure you are getting a great value for your design project. If you would like us to price out a job for you, give us a call today. After your initial consultation about the design work that you would like completed, we will provide you with an estimate based on the number of hours the project will take. More complex or larger design jobs that exceed the estimate given may be subject to additional costs. We have experience working with budgets of all sizes and can taylor the process to fit your needs.

How involved is the client in the design process?

We strive to keep you involved through the entire process. We like to keep open communication and encourage you to send us any samples, color combinations, ideas or examples of design work that you have found effective. We will ask for approval at different milestones before work continues. You are welcome to check in on the design process at any time, just give us a call or send an email and we will fill you in on any updates to the design.

How will I receive my design project once it is finished?

At the conclusion of a project, we will send you the high-resolution, press ready files or arrange for them to be printed and work with the press on your behalf.

Who owns the copyright for artwork created by Digital Canvas?

Copyright is yours upon receipt of final payment. We do, however, reserve the right to use any work for promotional purposes.

How does your logo design / branding process work?

We ask specific questions to find out our client’s needs, target market, and uses for the logo. We might request samples of existing logos that the client likes or dislikes to get an idea of their taste. If you already have a concept in mind or have a logo that needs updated, we can work from there or we can start from scratch and build your logo from the bottom up. We keep the logo design process flexible. If you’d like to see only a few concepts or if you need many, we can work out a solution that fits your needs and reaches your target audience.

What is the difference between a high resolution and a low resolution image?

Resolution refers to the sharpness and clarity of an image. DPI indicates the number of dots per inch. 300-dpi resolution generates the best quality image when printing. For computer monitors, the standard dpi is 72-dpi. Images that are only 72-dpi are not suitable for printing and will print fuzzy or pixilated. We require high-resolution images to be provided for work that is going to be printed.

Billing, Invoicing & Estimating – FAQs

We’ll ask you all the right questions about your project in order to provide you with an accurate estimate. For large jobs, we invoice at the beginning, middle, and end.
